This computer is tied into the Check Engine Light on your car to alert you that something in your cars computer is outside of its normal operating conditions and needs service.
It can be something as simple as a loose gas cap - or a very complicated and expensive repair.
This computer controls everything, fuel to air mixture, timing, idle speed, shift points, and more - and this computer makes its decisions based on dozens of sensors monitoring everything about your engines condition be it temperature, altitude, fuel quality etc.
As we all know about computers - the data in is critical, if a sensor is malfunctioning, the computer cannot make the correct decision, and your car will run poorly, and if its running bad enough, the check engine light will light up!
The key is that you must have a Diagnostic Scan Tool to access the computer to find out what sensor or component is failing.
A rough running engine could be due to bad plugs and wires, bad Oxygen Sensor, Air Filter, Mass Airflow Sensor, etc etc -
Without a Code Scanner you are just changing parts and hoping for the best - a sure waste of time and money!
Features:
Simple Push Button Operation - Nothing is needed except for the unit
LED Read out of the Fault Code - Ex. 0104
Code Book - Tells you 0104 is the Mass Airflow Sensor Circuit
Reset Button - After you have resolved the problem, reset the code and enjoy the drive
If you do not know what is broken - you cannot fix it, certainly the first time! If the problem looks like something too big to tackle yourself, you now have an idea of what the problem is so that when you go to your mechanic, you are not at his full mercy.
Will this work with my car?
If your car was sold in the US, 1996 or newer, and Gasoline yes, if not simply check to see if your car has the connector below, under the dash in the passenger compartment.

This manual features step by step diagnostic and repair procedures, using easy to find and common tools and gives you access to the same repair information that the technicians and mechanics use that don't work for a big Dealer/Stealership.
Have you bought a manual before that assumes you already know how to fix cars, and just gives a few technical specifications, without any real repair information?
Have you ever bought a manual that assumes, you have all of the computer test equipment a dealership would have?
Have you ever bought a manual, that simply tells you to replace everything, with no real repair or troubleshooting information?
If you can answer yes to any of these questions then this manual is for YOU!

Why waste money on a huge shop manual when everything is compiled into one Compact Disc and is much easier to use. Print the pages you need and throw them away when you are done.
You can view and print any page of your repair manual with this CD without worrying about getting it dirty or torn.
There are hundreds of pages of detailed repair instruction. Information contained in each body type specific manual, has been developed to aid technicians in diagnosing and repairing vehicle components and systems. Each manual covers the entire vehicle bumper to bumper including specifications, diagnosis and testing, in vehicle repairs, component removal and installation, that said a complete transmission rebuild is normally not covered or advisable. (When was the last time a dealership rebuilt your transmission, they simply sell you a replacement for several thousand dollars.)
Don't Get Scammed by So-Called FACTORY MANUALS!
Factory Manuals Pro's
Factory Manual Con's
May cover transmission repair info. Relies on using Dealer-Only Computers for all diagnoses (no check sensor Ohm ranges etc).
More Technical Specifications. Assumes you are trained mechanic on that make and can change brake pads, fuel pumps, starters, etc with nothing more than a few torque specs, and wear limits.
Specifications are specific to that exact make and model. Assumes you have all of the "Special Tools" that the dealer has to remove odd parts, wiring connections etc.
Best for trained mechanics who work on cars all day every day and do not need specific directions. Assumes that rather than troubleshoot a problem you will simply be replacing large components. (One reason dealer service is SO expensive. They simply replace your instrument panel instead of replacing a bad resistor).
Are you a factory trained mechanic working in a Dealer's Shop with factory specific tools? Are you a DIY'er who's diagnostics computer is a Volt-Meter working with off the shelf tools?
Step by Step removal/installation instructions are all written in details along with pictures to help you. This is the repair manual you need, whether you're a do it yourself shade tree mechanic, or own a garage.
This manual is made by Thomson Delmar Learning/Chiltons, provider of technical information for professionals of all fields.
